Silversmiths and Literati: Modena’s Jewry from the Renaissance to Emancipation.

A multimedia presentation by Dr. Federica Francesconi, University of Haifa.

The Jewish community of Modena –-capital of the Estense Duchy in Northern Italy- played a central role in forming the spirit of modern Italian and European Jewry. Through business creativity, philanthropy, the arts, and international familial alliances, Modenese Jews cultivated their own religious and cultural identity, bringing to life a microcosm of exceptional cultural and social complexity.

The program is made possible through the generous support of Regione Emilia Romagna and Confartigianato Modena and the Italian Cultural Institute.
